Materials Needed
Hook: 5mm crochet hook
Yarn: Bernat Blanket Super Bulky 6 in Pastel Confetti (head) + Big Twist Bulky 5 in Purple & Blue
(tentacles)
Eyes: 35mm glitter safety eyes
Stuffing: Loops and Threads Classic Fiber Fill
Tools: Yarn needle, scissors, stitch marker
Finished Size: About 16″ long from top of head to longest tentacle (varies by tentacle length)
Abbreviations (US Terms)
MC – Magic Circle
SC – Single Crochet
FLO – Front Loop Only
BLO – Back Loop Only
SCDEC – Single Crochet Decrease
SCINC – Single Crochet Increase
HEAD
Row 1: Start with MC, SC x 8 = 8
Row 2: SCINC in each SC = 16
Row 3: [SC in first SC, SCINC in next SC] Repeat around = 24
Row 4: [SC in first 2 SC, SCINC in next SC] Repeat around = 32
Row 5: [SC in first 3 SC, SCINC in next SC] Repeat around = 40
Rows 6-11: SC in each SC around = 40
STOP HERE:
Insert 35mm glitter safety eyes between Rows 7 and 8, about 8-10 stitches apart.
Start stuffing the head.
Row 12: [SC in first 3 SC, SCDEC] Repeat around = 32
Row 13: [SC in first 2 SC, SCDEC] Repeat around = 24
Row 14: Change color for neck flap – FLO SC in each SC = 24
Row 14 (continued): Switching back to head color – BLO SC in each SC = 24
Row 15: [SC in first SC, SCDEC] Repeat around = 16
Row 16: SCDEC around = 8 – Finish stuffing head firmly.
Tie off, cut leaving long tail. Weave tail through each SC and pull tight to close.
TENTACLES
Curly Tentacles: Chain as long as you want. In 2nd chain from hook, put 3 SC. Put 3 SC in every
chain until the end. Tie off leaving long tail.
Straight Tentacles: Chain as many as you want. In 2nd chain from hook, SC. SC in every chain until
the end. Tie off leaving long tail.
Assembly: Sew all tentacles to the bottom of the head, right on the inside of the neck flap. Secure
well!
