Sorry I’ve been MIA! Life has been… LIFE. You know how it gets. Hectic, messy, chaotic \u2014 very on brand for Gramma M’s Chaos, dontcha know.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
I hope you all are doing well. I have had some ups and downs the last couple weeks. Such is life, right?<\/p>\n\n\n\n
On the fun personal news front \u2014 I have to have surgery to remove a thyroid nodule. So that’s fun. \ud83e\udd26\u200d\u2640\ufe0f Add that to the chaos list.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
And on a serious note \u2014 one of my dear, dear friends from way back is not doing well at all. She’s in the hospital on life support. So if you have a minute, could you please send her some healing thoughts, and keep her kids and grandbabies in your prayers? I would really appreciate it. \ud83d\udc9c<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Okay, now for the adventure part!<\/p>\n\n\n\n
So I won tickets to the Foo Fighters concert this weekend at the FARGODOME! My husband couldn’t go, so my 14-year-old grandson \u2014 who LOVES going to concerts with his Gramma \u2014 said he wanted to go. Of course I said yes!<\/p>\n\n\n\n
We get there and I think, “We should probably figure out where our seats are.” My grandson looks it up on his phone and goes, “Gramma… we’re in the PIT.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Well. This is information I should have looked up BEFORE I put on cute boots that were NOT made for comfort. But okay. Three hours of standing? “I got this!” My grandson was SO pumped because we were going to be right up front.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
First things first \u2014 we gotta get the concert tees! You can’t go to a concert and NOT get a shirt. Two shirts = $115. Holy crap! But worth every penny because my grandson was so excited he put his right on over the other shirt.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The opening band was… well… not our cup of tea. I kinda had a feeling when I saw the name was Mannequin Pussy. Yikes. We listened, we clapped. I liked the lyrics to the songs \u2014 well, the ones I could actually understand \u2014 but the music and the dancing? Not so much for this grandma.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Then we waited for the Foo Fighters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
And WOW. They did NOT disappoint. The light show, the energy, Dave Grohl’s presence \u2014 amazing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
I was having the best time with my grandson… until the guy in front of me ate something that clearly did NOT agree with him and started passing gas. And if you know me in real life, you know I’m short. Like, really short. I can’t breathe that fresh air up above everyone else. I was trapped. No escape.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
And then the SECOND smell hit. Listen, I do NOT recommend taking younger kids to a Foo Fighters concert in the pit at the Fargodome unless you are way up in the stands, because you are going to get a contact high. Holy shit, it was EVERYWHERE. Gas on one side, pot on the other. Welcome to the pit!<\/p>\n\n\n\n
About halfway through, my feet started THROBBING. I mean, I’m a 52-year-old grandma who is not in the best shape, jumping around and headbanging like I’m 22 again. I cannot last like I did 30 years ago, folks. But I knew my grandson was waiting for ONE particular song, and I knew it would be the encore. So I smiled through the pain.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
You know, as a grandma, I think we do things we never would have done with our own kids. Don’t get me wrong \u2014 as parents we sacrifice everything for our kids. But as a grandma? I think I sacrifice even MORE. Maybe it’s because now we know how short life is, and we want every single memory we can get.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
So we stayed. The whole concert. My feet were screaming, but we stayed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Then they left the stage and came back for the encore. I told my grandson, “Get your phone out!”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Dave Grohl gets on the mic and says, “This is the last song. We’re going to play the song we used to end every show with 35 years ago. It’s called Exhausted.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
And I thought, well that’s appropriate \u2014 because I AM exhausted! Lol.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
But then I looked at my grandson and saw his face fall. Not just disappointment \u2014 he was MAD.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
I patted his shoulder and said, “Just wait. There is NO way they are not going to play Everlong.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Exhausted ended \u2014 wish MINE would have \u2014 and then… that intro. That beautiful intro to Everlong starts playing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
If you are a grandparent, you KNOW there is nothing better than seeing pure excitement and joy on your grandkid’s face. And my grandson did not disappoint. He was SO pumped he started singing at the top of his lungs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
It was perfect.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
So all in all? The concert was AMAZING. Minus the gas, the pot, and the pain. \ud83e\udd23 But I guess when you’re 52 that’s expected.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
On the way to the car, my grandson tells me, “Gramma, this is number 2 in my top 10 favorite things ever.” (We took him to a car show in St. Paul this summer and that’s still number 1). And honestly? Knowing he loved it that much made it all worth it. Even if I can barely walk for a week now. Lol.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
That’s it for Gramma M’s adventures this time. I DO recommend seeing Foo Fighters live \u2014 they put on one hell of a show.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
